Meet the Troup

MTC Tenterden Troop

Welcome by Lieutenant Fulker:

The Tenterden unit is based at our Headquarters which is the Kent & East Sussex railway station.  With large farm fields, small woodlands, a river and the train station grounds around us, we have a very good platform to deliver a varied extra-curricular experience for our cadets.  One troop, our troop, Tenterden troop.

Our Staff team:

Major Ben Chapman – Officer in Charge

As the senior Officer in Charge, I work very closely with all of the adult instructors to deliver a magical programme that is totally different to any other independent youth organisation in the UK today.  I oversee all the training and development of each individual adult and cadet to make sure everyone is having the best time possible!  I have previously served in the military and spent 15 years as a secondary school teacher, so I have all the experience I need to work with young people.

Captain Hazel Fulker – Second Officer in Charge

“Hi I am Tenterden troop 2IC.  My background is varied from ex-forces where I gained many qualities and experiences from medical to fitness and beyond.  I have a Physical Training business, I am an open water coach, British tri coach and athletics running coach.  I have coached and competed for many years at the national and international level.  I have won the 100K South Downs run with a top team and can often be found working in schools leading ‘Armyfit’ sessions and love helping young adults fulfil their potential for their age/ability.  I am excited to be a part of the Tenterden unit and look forward to watching the unit grow and support in all aspects.

Regimental Sergeant Major Donna Bull – Unit Training Officer

“I am the Unit Training Officer for the Tenterden Unit.  I oversee all the training to make sure that all cadets are getting the best experience possible.  I am also the troop leader for fieldcraft and plan all of our field-based learning and activities.  Being a former cadet, I love the experience that the MTC gives to young people.”

Sergeant Major J Corin – Junior Officer in Charge

“I am the Juniors Officer in Charge, this means I work with and look after all the junior cadet’s age 9-12 making sure they get the best experience possible.  With my own collection of military vehicles, I lead on the STEM programme which is unique to the MTC”

Sergeant L Johnstone – Troop Sergeant

“As the Troop Sergeant, it is my responsibility to carry out all inductions and to teach the troop how to carry out drill, marching and parade.  Kit, uniform and presentation is key for me to make sure the troop is ready and waiting for each training session to come alive!  As a secondary school teacher, I have lots of experience in working with young people.”

Clare Young – Unit Admin Officer

“I am the Unit Admin Officer and parent to two of our cadets.  My role is to support the unit with all things admin and finance.  I look after our parents and carers to make sure they are kept up to date all the time with all things MTC from emails to our website to our social media accounts.  On drill nights I am the first person the cadets come to see when they arrive”.
